i’m currently working full time but would like to explore the possibility of having a home-based travel business.

The home based travel businesses that you’re seeing are probably the MLM ones. Depending on the travel business you’re in, you’ll have a site that people book travel through or you’ll be selling travel packages. Since they’re MLM’s, you’ll also be able to sell people their own “travel agency” as well. I found this review of the 2 biggest travel agency home businesses:
