I want to sell a specific kind of training videos online, through a website. How can I best find the characteristics of the online buyers who usually buy this type of product? How do I identify my competition for starting this online business? Please help!

Awesome! I would use Facebook because it’s hot right now. Create a fan page based on the topic that your videos are about. Suggest it to all your close friends so that they can become fans.

Start giving tid-bits of information about the subject. Don’t try to sell it. Just get the conversations going. The more you do this, the more you will attract a group of people that are interested in the subject. Don’t advertise or put a link to your site yet.

Soon you will get friends and acquaintances that all share this interest. Then create a WordPress blog, and start blogging about the topic. Have a link to this blog on your Facebook fan page. At the blog, you will give even more info and those from the fan page that are really interested will go to your blog. From this blog, create a link to your website, where you sell the product.

Because you have already built relationships with these people, you will have found out their characteristics. They will feel comfortable with investing something you have recommended. (the training videos.)

As far as competition, you can just do research. Maybe someone else has a Facebook page with this topic too. Maybe you can work with your competition!
