What repercussions can I take on somebody that ripped me off online?

Question by drbrian247: What repercussions can I take on somebody that ripped me off online?
I purchased a couple of things from an online business called honorshops.com and they stalled once already but today is the day that I was supposed to receive my items and nothing. I can reach them online with the chat link and they talk to me until I mention my not receiving my order. I spent almost $ 500. Isn’t that a felony theft? What can I do to either get my money back or make them get in trouble for this so it won’t happen to others or both?

You can report them to the BBB or your local or federal district’s attorney general’s office. None of those methods will get your money back though – they will simply address the scammer. The scammer (most likely) is not even in the USA, so there is nothing that can legally be done about it from a USA jurisprudence perspective. Sorry. They simply don’t have the physical resources to track down every internet transaction gone bad (and there are thousands, if not millions, of those per day). Such Chinese sites are actually sanctioned by their government to do that stuff – they pay a generous amount of the scammed amount back to the government (which is also known as a bribe).

Sure enough, it’s a scam site out of China. It’s over. There is nothing you can do about it. Except to realize that there are VASTLY more scams out here than legitimate sites. It’s up to YOU to research the ‘companies’ you order from – it’s not the cops’ or authorities’ responsibilty.
