I want to provide services for repairing computers and networking problems onsite to my local home users/ home based businesses. Should I get a license for it. If yes, where do I go to get a license?

You can do it all on your own by checking with your local city all for a business license. You will also need to take care of taxes too on all level of goverment, so you need to check on that too. As far as the Fed go it sounds like your Tax ID will be your SS#.
However, you will have to get a Tax ID from your state and you may or may not need to pay taxes for your city and if that’s the case you will need to get an ID for the city too.
You might want to consider consulting with a business accountant, who can help you get started and even take care of filling out all the forms for you. I would suggest someone in your city or at least nearby, because they should be familiar with all your tax laws and it would be handy to have them close by.
Having an accountant will save you a lot of headaches, because you can have them do your business taxes and personal taxes if you want them to.
