Question by McClain Trucking, LLC: How to setup a home-based freight brokerage for a start up company with no broker experience?
We just started our home-based trucking company and we want to earn more money by engaging in the “broker” side of the trucking business. My father drives and I handle the business part. What would be the easiest/safiest route to take?

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Start Your Own Freight Brokerage Business by Entrepreneur Press
* A Practical Guide to Transportation and Logistics by Michael B. Stroh
