You need license to do any business. Depending on your location ( state, city), you may need city license (permits) and/or license/permit by the state. Check with your state’s Secreatry of State ( SOS), IRS, and Business licensing Bureau for requirements. also, check with your city or county for zoning and licensing requirements.
If you are running your online business out of your home office, also need to make sure your city allows that – there are specific zone laws for residential and commercial use of any location, so make sure you are not violating those laws specially if you are involved in manufacturing and bringing a lot of traffic to your residence.
If you are doing an LLC, you need to register your LLC with the SOS and apply for Employer’s Identification Number (EIN) with IRS – you need it to open bank account and many other things even if you don’t have employees. You can register trademark, DBA ( doing business as) name etc. once you register your LLC or together with that.
