Q&A: Can I use the words Lane and Street interchangeably for my mailing address?

Question by Jason: Can I use the words Lane and Street interchangeably for my mailing address?
On some marketing materials I don’t want it to be so obvious that I’m a home based business, so- If I list the address as Mulberry Street instead of Mulberry Lane will the mail still get to me? There is only one Mulberry in this town…. Mulberry Lane sounds too residential.

You can try, but there is a chance some mail may be lost. To be safe, include your 9-digit zip code. If you don’t know the last four digits, ask the post office what they are. Businesses often print zip codes, and that’s what determines where the mail goes.
