Question by Dianna M: Do I have to register with the state if Illinois to run a home-based business?
I’ve already found out what I need to do to get my business license from my city and county, but I’m not sure if I have to register with the State of Illinois. Should I just call the Secretary of State’s office and simply ask? Could it be that simple? LOL!

You have to, since the Dept. of Revenue has to collect sales tax from you. A call to your Dept. of Revenue is all it takes, or you can mail them. The address should be on google.
Illinois runs things differently than Wisconsin and Pennsylvania (I have a license in both states). I only have to file yearly, but I think Illinois requires quarterly. In Chicago they want it monthly. I only did one event in Chicago then decided the endless paperwork wasn’t worth continuing.
