It stinks when goals aren’t steadily met… Especially financial goals…

Seems like a HARSH QUOTE from the creator of the iconic Dilbert Comic Strip. Yet, he was speaking from his own experience. His key point? It’s nearly impossible to fail when you have a SYSTEM. Not a GOAL.
Adams wraps this up by asking us to think about these two questions… What persistent skills or relationships can I develop?
…Versus…
What short-term goal can I achieve?
The former has a potent snowball effect, while the latter is a pass/fail with often no consolation prize.
Let’s dig a wee bit deeper… When Scott first started blogging, to his wife, it seemed silly for him to be doubling his work load, while his income barely budged forward an inch…
But see, that wasn’t his GOAL. He wanted to be a writer. And writing is a skill that requires practice. Writing a blog moved him from being an out-of-practice writer, with low odds of success to a well-practiced writer that had much higher visibility. Also, this allowed him to write on a variety of topics and see what his audience liked the most.
The Wall Street Journal took notice of his posts. Then the WSJ coupled with his blog, the blog got more attention and that turned into a major book deal. The major book deal generated speaking requests that Scott says are “embarrassingly lucrative.”
Now I’m not saying not to ever set a goal.
But what about this SYSTEM thing?
There are lots of areas you could choose to use this in. One of the most POTENT? Becoming “well-practiced” in generating Online Traffic. It’s the lifeline to the rest of your entire business.
What if you had a process to do that? Doing something to generate traffic everyday… Becoming a MASTER at that skill as a byproduct… Pretty soon… Leads. Sales. Limitless opportunities would start flooding your way too.
This eases the pressure a bit too? Cause the “goal” isn’t so much making a sale with every ad you place. It’s not about one campaign you run that MUST work or you’ll feel like a failure… Because that’s just not the main key of making your system work…
