How to get a “business” started for a 15 year old?

Question by John Fetchbark: How to get a “business” started for a 15 year old?
I want to start a computer business. Well, I want to start helping people with their computer problems, but try to make a “business” out of it. I know computers inside and out and want to make money off of this. But how, first, Im introverted and cannot assert myself to do it. Second, I understand their are legal implications that I could get sued if I “screw up”. But how can I succeed?

Great! It is nice to see someone so young wanting to start their own business! I will tell you everything that you need and if you still need additional help from there, hopefully you can contact me and I can help. First step is to think of a name for your business, then check with the state to check to see if the name is available, if the name is available I would suggest an LLC( Limited Liability Corporation) due to the fact that it is like a corporation where you are not personally responsible for anything, the business is responsible, therefore it creates a separate entity, but it is not as confusing as a corporation with shares and things like that. The next step is to go to the irs.gov website, look for business and you would want to set up an EIN number, which is like a social security number for your business so that you would be able to open up a bank account because you have to keep your personal finances separate from your business finances(it would be the smartest thing) next do some research into local prices for these services so that you will know what the competition is doing and also where your competitive advantage will be. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS A BUSINESS PLAN! GET IT DONE! IT WILL TAKE TIME BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT! I can guarantee that it will be sort of difficult, but you can go online and get a sample business plan to follow and it will be very easy! Thats so you will know where your company is going, you can’t have a successful business without this, it is the blueprint! Next thing, advertising! Easily done for a small business under $ 200 these days. Flyers, Postcards, business cards, Vistaprint gives away freebies for small businesses so try that website. Also you want to have a website! Easy! Intuit is what I would recommend, the websites are so easy and only $ 20 a month for 100 pages! Phone service is next if you have a cell phone just make sure you change your voicemail to reflect your business! There is so much more! But those are the basics! Good luck! You can contact me if you need more help!
