Question by Matt: How do you start a small business of selling art online and at art shows?
My husband is an artist and we are looking to start doing art shows and selling online. I was wondering about some resources that could help with this process. I know I need a Texas Sales Tax Certificate but that is really all I know. Anything would help.

no idea what type of art,, but Texas has the largest flea mkt in U.S.? at Canton,, maybe he could try selling there, they have everything under the sun for sale there,, one weekend a month
also a big flea mkt south of Garland
Or,, try selling to furniture stores. I know of a chain in my area that buy from a couple of artists,, then have some people matt them and frame them,, then sell in their stores for big profits. Large cities in Texas have art galleries that sell for artists. there’s always eBay
I guess to answer your question, you’d need photos of the art to place on your web site, oh wait, you need a web site,, and you need a catalog so you’d need to name or number or some system each piece of art to keep up with what piece is which,, and to see what people like best. You’d have to come up with a price system,, get some software like Quick Books to take care of inventory and billing,,
If you know of an art show, all the promoter wants is a fee for the space you get.
