Question by : Can you claim unemployment if you were fired from a job then opened a home-based small business?
I may lose my job in August and have decided to start a small home-based business but not sure when it will be open. If I lose my job before my business is even opened, can I still claim unemployment benefits on the job that I lost????

the home based business is NOT relevant, whether or not you can draw unemployment is based on first if you qualify for unemployment (based on earnings in the base year) then if you are eligible (based on WHY the job was lost)……….
you MUST report any income either from a part-time job or self employment IF you are drawing unemployment benefits
