Question by cuatroonce: If I run an online business, do I need to get a business license in California AND also register a dba?
I am opening an online business, selling goods, and another one selling services. I would like to know – since this is an online venture (and open to people around the world), do i need to also register for a business license in California (where I am located), and also a dba?
If your online business is making more than $ 9,000 per year, or you plan it will this year, then yes you need to incorporate for tax purposes. Having a business license is good anyway, it will allow you to open a checking account in your businesses name, and buy products through wholesalers. To register you business and it’s name your going to need forms that meet your state requirements. It’s pretty easy to do and doesn’t require a lawyer. You can download a kit or order a book that will include the forms and guide you through the entire process at the link below.
